Shaq Vs.
Perhaps the greatest show of all time hosted by the greatest sports personality Shaquille O’neal or what ever you want to call him with the prefix Shaq. Shaq Vs. is a very funny show where Shaq challenges the best athletes in the world in their respective sport. This show is basically like off season training for Shaq (being in front of a camera, that is). Now, Shaq may seem like a jerk sometimes on T.V. but he really is a nice guy. He’s quoted saying stuff like “I don’t sleep” and “I never get tired”. I saw him take on Michael “The Baltimore Bullet” Phelps in three water races. Shaq beat Phelps going 25 meters when Phelps had to go 50 meters, other than that though Shaq didn’t have much success and had to go synchronized swimming in a pink hair net, or whatever you call those things, he seemed quite excited to try it actually.
Watching I get more amazed at Phelps by the second. He is like the god of the freaks of nature, it seems like he doesn’t even try. He has the diet of the normal American and loves the signature Baltimore crab cakes. During the show Shaq is quoted saying, “The best athletes are modest and that’s what makes them great” which is quite ironic actually because Shaq is a great athlete, but he is like the farthest athlete from modesty in the universe.
“People think that when I jump in the pool I go belly flop and there’s big splashes poosshsshsh! But I get in the pool stealthy ninja style” -Shaquille “Superman” O’neal

Good Team, Bad Team
One of my favorite players, Matt Holliday, is enjoying sweet success in St. Louis since being traded from Oakland. In 346 at-bats with Oakland, Holliday had 11 homers, 54 RBI’s and a .286 average. However, in 178 at-bats with St. Louis, Holliday has hit 12 homers, 48 RBI’s, and a .371 batting average. That’s an increase of about 52% in production. If you think about, it makes perfect sense. When your a good player on a bad team you don’t really have any motivation to try your hardest, or stay in shape. When your out their everyday busting your gut playing baseball with no result it can get you down.
Think about all the players who have gone from a bad team to a playoff contending team, how many of those have seen an increase in production? Holliday is one, but there’s also A-rod who really exploded onto the scene when he first came to New York. Justin Verlander has seen a huge spike in production this year that the Tigers are a contending team. Jason Bay saw an increase in production after coming over to Boston from Pittsburgh.
There are guys who will produce no matter what. Guys like Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Chase Utley, and Johan Santana. That reminds me, think about David Wright this year. The last few years the Mets have had a chance for a playoff spot (they let everyone down of course). Now, the Mets are sitting at the bottom of that division, hanging on to a strand of dignity, being in New York, by woeful Washington. Wright hasn’t been nearly as productive this year than in years past. This could do, however, to the lacking presence of guys like Santana, Jose Reyes, and Carlos Delgado. Lance Berkman is another guy who comes to mind.
My point is that, if your a superstar in the MLB, you shouldn’t go to a crappy team.
More In A Bit
I realize I haven’t been updating pages and posts and often nowadays. I just haven’t been able to find the time with homework and working on WP Statimagician’s secondary site, Statimagician, at www.statimagician.com. This weekend I should have everything up to date and working from both sites.

We Will Go All The Way
Well, the past three days in sports have been very interesting for me. First of all, the Michigan Wolverines took down Notre Dame in the Big House on a two minute drive by yours truly, Tate Forcier. This win propelled Michigan into the top 25 knocking off Mizzou for the 25th spot. I’m not sayin they don’t deserve it, because they definitely do. I’m saying they might want to beat Eastern Michigan before we make any assumptions. It’s only week two and Michigan is coming off of….ughh I can’t even say it, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. Michigan’s arch rival Ohio State lost to USC again 18-15, this time it was extra sweet because it was in Ohio State and proves that Ohio State, as good as they are, can’t handle the big boys, or a true freshman quarterback for that matter. Michigan State got beat by Central Michigan on a last second field goal, I did not like this because Sparty is a good friend of mine. Wisconsin, on the other hand narrowly slipped by a crappy team for the second straight week. This time it was against Fresno State in double overtime. Let’s see if juggernaut Wofford (he said sarcasticly) can take them down in Camp Randall next weekend.
On NFL Sunday my fantasy team got its first real action. Thomas Jones was the high man for me with 22 points. Randy Moss pretty much sealed a victory for me with his big night, unless Darren Sproles has the best game of the last 50 years. The Lions lost to the Saints thanks to Drew Breese’s six touchdown passes, but the Lions did make it a contest for the first half. The Ravens won a thriller against KC and the Ravens D got me a whopping 3 points.
That brings us to Monday, which of course means Monday Night Football. I was so concentrated on my homework that I forgot there was a game even on. I turned it to the Pats-Bills game midway through the third quarter, just in time to see Fred Jackson run in for another score and put the Bills up 24-13. I then continue to see the Patriots offense fail in or near the Red Zone. Until, that is, with about four minutes left in the game Tom Brady and the Patriots charge down the field and score a TD. The Pats miss the conversion and are now down 24-19 on the ensuing kick off the Bills returner fumbles, yes fumbles the ball and the kicker Stephen Gostkowski recovers on the Bills 30. Brady then proceeds to do his thing and pass to a triple covered Benjamin Watson in the end zone for a score. The Pats miss another conversion and are up 25-24. The next 40 seconds probably would have killed me had I been 60 years older, but the Patriots D took care of things and apps well that ends well.
But wait! As I was being caught up in all the hubub the Tigers come back from three down to tie it in the ninth and win it in the tenth on an error by the Blue Jays first baseman! In the heat of a pennant race that’s exactly what you need, to rely on the other teams miscues. Now, hopefully the Indians can beat the… Oh wait, I’ve been notified by my handy dandy iPod that the Twins have come back and beat the Indians. No gain for the Tigers, but every win counts nowadays.

Somewhere Over The Dwayne Bow
One of my favorite sports personalites, Tony Reali, is at it again with his new fantasy sports column for the Philladelphia Inquirer, The Reali-ty of Fantasy.
Fantasy football is a powerless, vulnerable mind job. There are times you’d rather take a cheese grater to your head. Others when you’ll have less control than the woman in the “Oops I Crapped My Pants” commercial.
It reminds me of my youth. (Read, two weeks ago.) Handing my brother the second Nintendo controller while I stood behind him with the first finishing out my Tecmo Super Bowl game. He’s thinking he’s calling passing plays while QB Eagles is running circles around the field.
And that’s fantasy: you’ve got the team; someone else has the controller. And he’s laughing at you.
Genius, I’m going to have to steal some of those team names.

WHY?
The Tigers are definitely going to make this division race interesting huh. Oh well, don’t expect me to take it lightly when they blow a 7.5 game lead and join the exclusive “we will never succeed club”.
I will never, ever, give up or lose faith in the Michigan Wolverines, however, the Tigers are not so easy to stay faithful to. I guess I’ve got the Orioles to fall back on, but it’s hard going through life rooting for a team that will always get your hopes up and always dash them aside.
Honesty, how many people do you know who have actually admitted that they’re a Pirates or Nationals fan?
When people ask me what football team I root for I usually say the Patriots or the Ravens because I don’t want people laughing at me.
No Excuses
I know the Tigers are up like 5 games in their division, but getting swept by Kansas City can’t happen when the season is on the line. I know the Tigers have been awful on the road this year, but that’s definitely not an excuse for losing big games you should win. All games are big this time of year.
Luckily the Twins and White Sox haven’t had much luck so the damage is still minimal. The Tigers have 22 games left. At this point they need to go 17-5 if they want to make the playoffs, this number is with no Twins or White Sox losses, however, so it’s unrealistic. The Tigers still have to kick butt to win the division though.

Rodney Got What?
As you probably know Fernando Rodney got a three game suspension for throwing a ball into the crowds after a comeback win at Tampa Bay.
When I first heard this I laughed thinking it was a joke, but then I realized they were being serious. I mean this is completely insane, the guy was excited, and his adrenaline was pumping. As long as nobody gets hurt (and no one did get hurt) I would let this slide without a second look.
Perhaps the commisioner,or whoever decided to place the suspension, felt like he needed to make a statement about the tolerancy of behaviour in baseball. Let me just say this; baseball doesn’t need to prove anything to their fans. Any one who spends their time worrying or caring about what the MLBPA is not a true baseball fan.
Don’t get me wrong, I care deeply about baseball, I want it to be a completely fair and clean game. I’ll celebrate if ever it does happen, but I’m not going to complain or do anything about baseball being a cheaters sport. Let the players do what they need to do, I love the game, I love the stats, and I love the competition.
